To further equip our students for the future that lies ahead for them both professionally and socially, we are committed to providing an education that will help them be independent, critical thinkers and problem solvers.
In an effort to prepare our students to be college and career ready in an ever-changing world and to be skilled ambassadors for Christ, we are making continued additions and improvements in the area of STEM education:
- Science: Our teachers will be attending training on the newly released NGSS (Next Generation Science Standards) at the Sulphur Springs School District. They will continue to explore the subjects of life, earth and space, and physical science in the classroom through instruction, research, and hands-on activities. We will participate in the ACSI Science Fair as well.
- Technology: Students will use both class iPads and desktop computers to continue learning technological skills. Students will learn how to become proficient in keyboarding, word processing, and other important skills. They will use technology for research, practice, and the introduction to coding and programming.
- Engineering: Through the offerings of afterschool enrichment classes such as Amusement Park Engineering and Drone Building, students will explore the use of different motors, electrical engineering, and robotics.
- Mathematics: In each grade, students will learn math in a “building blocks” process, meaning that their foundational skills will be enhanced, deepened, strengthened, and extended with each grade level.
In addition to these different elements, we will also hold our annual Family Science Night and our 4th annual STEM Expo, where students will be encouraged to explore, plan, and present the development and creation of a project in one of six categories: invention, robotics/computer science, reverse engineering, Rube Goldberg, scientific inquiry, and engineering development. Our team of judges (mostly from JPL/NASA) will provide feedback and awards for this event.
“For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him. And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together." Colossians 1:16-17
