Each year both the junior high and high school SCCS choirs enter the “Music in the Parks” competition, held at Disneyland. This large orchestra/band/jazz band/choral competition gathers schools from all over the country and state to compete. Sometimes, choirs from other countries attend. Just this last weekend, the SCCS high school choir competed and won against a choir from Canada. At the end of the competition, there is an impressive trophy ceremony in the Fantasyland Theater with Disney characters and professional singers employed by Disney.
“This year, the junior high choir entered two categories, Division A Mixed Choir and Division A Women’s Choir, a first-time entry for our school,” shared Susi Johnson, Choir Director. “Our junior high choir won 1st place in both categories with the highest rating possible, a Superior rating. We also won 2nd place overall for Junior High, out of divisions A-AAA.”
The SCCS family is proud of this distinguished accomplishment and honor for the junior high choir.
“This is such a sweet group of young singers!” continued Johnson. “For the majority of the group, this is their first year in choir. Their adjudicators repeatedly commented on their mature tone, musical choices and professionalism. I was incredibly impressed with their work ethic this year and just overall maturity!”
