California Scholarship Federation
The Santa Clarita Christian School (SCCS) Chapter of the California Scholarship Federation (CSF) began in the late 1990s. The organization itself was founded by Mr. Charles F. Seymour in 1921 with the idea of a state-wide organization to honor outstanding high school students. CSF chapters today currently number approximately 1,400.
CSF chapters actively promote the ideal of service to the community and continue to encourage and motivate academically talented students through recognition. Students become eligible for membership by achieving and maintaining set standards of academic excellence.
Led by faculty advisor Mrs. Debbie Brenner, the SCCS chapter has maintained a steady membership of approximately 40 members per semester.
The centerpiece project for the group is the annual Operation Christmas Child project. The club organizes donations from the entire school into shoe boxes which are distributed to children across the globe through the Samaritan’s Purse organization.
CSF is active on the SCCS campus. CSF offers an after-school tutoring program aimed at ministering to SCCS students and also serves fellow SCCS students by providing snacks and drinks to students during the week of mid-term exams for some much needed respite!
In addition, the group votes on one major community service activity each year, tailored to the members’ gifts and abilities.
By serving in CSF, SCCS students also have the opportunity to receive a Seymour Memorial Life Member award. The Seymour Memorial Awards tuition scholarships date back to 1925. The final selection of recipients is based on character, leadership and service. Fifty regional finalists receive awards of $2,000 each and five of these (one per region) receive an additional $3,000. According to the CSF organization the award is now regarded as one of the highest scholastic honors given to secondary school graduates in and for the state of California.
